Bank Seats

Foundation or abutments are normally designed by a competent structural engineer, but typically, have a length which is equal to or greater than the width of the bridge, a width of at least a metre and should be kept well back from the bank on permanently firm ground.

When there is a tendency for rivers or streams to flood it is advisable to extend the bank seats up to the underside of the Precast units to prevent them from being dislodged.

Bridge Ramps

Ideally, the approach road should lead straight onto and off a bridge without changes in level or directions; it is also desirable that the bridge is wider than the road so that the traffic is not constricted against the parapets.

Due consideration should be given to the siting and sage operation of the mobile crane required to place the decks into position.
